Kingfish Fishing

Our red grouper season came to an unexpected end October 7th as it was determined that the fish total for 2015 had already met its allowed quota. Gag or black grouper remain open and should be easier to catch as the water cools down.

Kingfish and Spanish Mackerel are beginning their winter run from up north and into shallower water. As a result, many big numbers of huge Spanish Mackerel are being caught, fish bigger than we have seen here for some time. The smaller kingfish are here too and the big fish should be here any day.

As always, tuna, sailfish and others can be caught as this migration happens, just have to be in the right place at the right time. All these fish are being caught as we troll spoons and other artificials and put up a great fight.

The kingfish can reach 40 pounds or more, the tuna are black fins that can reach 30 pounds and the sailfish are strictly catch a and release but all three are a great fight.
