Fishing for Kingfish with Scales n Tails Charters

Soon our water will be cooling down and we will begin fishing for Kingfish and the surrounding waters. Along with the kingfish, spanish mackerel, sailfish and blackfin tuna will make their presence known as well. We troll for the kingfish and the action can be fast and furious. The kings can be over 45 pounds and are extremely good to eat.

We use a variety of baits which we pull behind the boat and varied speeds and depths. We use planers to get the bait to different depths so that we have all the levels of the water we are fishing in covered. Kings eat smaller fish so spoons are one of our primary baits we pull. We have plugs or hard plastic rattle type baits that get great results as well. Kings also like squid or shrimp so some of our soft plastics mimic those fish and vary in colors.

Water Conditions are a big part of catching Kingfish.

Water conditions can play a big part of how we catch the kings. The rougher the water, the more the kingfish is likely to be caught near the top on surface type baits. We prefer to have clean or clear water when fishing for kings but with the right color of lure we can still catch plenty. Water temperatures have to be right, once the water dips below 80 degrees, the fishing really escalates and will stay great as long as the water stays above 66-68 degrees.
